Cannock fire: Smoke engulfs Staffordshire homes after blaze erupts with residents terrified and evacuation order issued
A MASSIVE fire has erupted near homes sending plumes of black smoke into the sky.
Shocking photos show the huge cloud rising in Cannock, Staffordshire – with fire crews racing to the scene.
Horror snaps showed smoke pouring into the sky[/caption] Locals shared snaps of a fire ripping through an industrial-looking building[/caption]Fire crews have now urged locals to shut their windows, and asked nearby businesses to evacuate.
Dozens of firefighters have been rushed to the scene to try extinguish the blaze.
Snaps shared by horrified locals online showed the smoke rising into the blue sky, while others shared pics of fire leaping from an industrial-looking building.
One resident wrote: “What’s happening with the big fire down at Lakeside behind Sainsbury’s in Cannock?
“Massive plumes of smoke can be seen for miles around.”
Residents claimed the fire had broken out at a unit.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service this morning said: “We have a very large scale incident close to the orbital islands in Cannock.
“We have 10 fire engines in attendance supported by specialist equipment and officers. Some roads closures are in place.”
It then added: “Fire Fighters are asking all residents to close windows and doors due to smoke and all local businesses to evacuate.”
