Buildings approved
at Inverness parcel
County planners have approved a residential construction project off Fox Drive in Inverness.
The owners of the vacant lot applied for a coastal development permit for a 1,224-square-foot primary residence, a 1,224-square-foot accessory dwelling unit and two 5,000-gallon water tanks. The lot is 127,193 square feet.
The Marin County Community Development Agency approved the plan on April 26.

Council authorizes
projects at 2 homes
The Town Council has approved designs and demolition permits for two residential projects.
The owners of 51 Shady Lane plan to tear down the poolhouse, expand the residence and relocate the pool. The owner of 124 Winding Way plans to tear down exterior wood siding and replace it with stucco.
The council held hearings on the proposals at its meeting on Monday.

City clears plan for
utility box artwork
The City Council has approved a plan for artists to paint six utility boxes.
The San Rafael Leadership Institute, a program of the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce, proposed the plan. The project, titled “Art with a Purpose,” is intended to “inspire residents, job seekers, and employers by promoting Chamber of Commerce values, such as sustainability, inclusivity, and equitable opportunities,” Craig Veramay, the city’s assistant library and recreation director, wrote in a report to the council.
The utility boxes are at Fourth and A streets; Fourth and B streets; Civic Center Drive and McInnis Parkway; Las Gallinas Avenue and Nova Albion Way; Bellam Boulevard and Kerner Boulevard; and Second Street and Grand Avenue.
The council authorized the project at its meeting on Monday. The institute expects painting to begin this month.
Fireworks spark
small brush fire
A Novato man was arrested after police said he sparked a grass fire with fireworks.
The incident was reported around 6 p.m. Tuesday. The small fire started outside an apartment complex on Cresta Way. Residents were evacuated. No one was hurt.
Witnesses recalled hearing an explosion before the fire broke out. They were able to identify the suspect, police Sgt. Justin Graham said.
Cary J. Newman, 54, was arrested on suspicion of causing a fire, possessing explosives, and having fewer than 25 pounds of fireworks. He admitted that he caused the fire and also had homemade fireworks in his vehicle, police reported. Fireworks are prohibited in Marin County.
Newman was booked into Marin County Jail. Bail was set at $849, according to jail records.
