Pundit thinks two people have overtaken Heung-min Son as Tottenham’s best players
Tim Sherwood believes that Tottenham’s two best players at the moment are Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven, not club captain Heung-min Son.
While Sonny started the season on fire and has consistently chipped in with goals even during poor performances, the South Korean has looked a shadow of himself in recent weeks.
Romero and Van de Ven, meanwhile, have somehow managed to impress despite letting in a hatful of goals over the past two months in that Tottenham defence.
The Argentine has really grown into his vice-captain role under Ange Postecoglou and is now a fierce leader on the pitch for Spurs, while his Dutch centre-back partner has buckets of pace to drag Tottenham out of trouble.
Are Romero and Van de Ven Tottenham’s best players?
It is both impressive and a little worrying that two of Tottenham’s most in-form players are defenders, despite the team’s poor defensive record, but that is something Postecoglou will look to address during the summer.
Tim Sherwood said on The Kelly and Wrighty Show: “His two best players are Van de Ven, with the pace, but he will do his hamstring and Romero. If you asked him who has been his Player of the Season he would say Romero, so he isn’t changing those two.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
Across the whole season, Tottenham have had so many standout players, including Romero, Van de Ven, Vicario, Sonny, Udogie, and Porro. It is now just a matter of building an entire squad that fits Postecoglou’s image in order to instil more consistency across 38 games.
