PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) - NEWS10 kicked off our '10 In Your Town' series on Friday. The NEWS10 morning team spent the day in Pittsfield, showing off some destinations and people that make the community great.
One of America's most celebrated writers started his most famous work in Pittsfield. Herman Melville, author of Moby Dick, wrote the piece, that has come to be considered a cornerstone of American literature, at his 160 acre estate called Arrowhead.
Historians say the view of the tallest mountain in Massachusetts inspired the story. Melville also published a series of short stories in Pittsfield called 'The Piazza Tales'. To visit the property, hours of operation and more details can be found on their website.
