CANstruction build competition returns to Capital Region

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The annual CANstruction is returning to the Capital Region for the 13th year. This is a design-and-build competition where teams join forces to create structures using only canned food to embody the theme "Dream STEAM!"

The structures will benefit the Food Pantries for the Capital District and be displayed at Crossgates Mall from May 7 to 19. 10 teams will participate, consisting of architects, engineers, builders, and designers with an additional structure done by Girl Scouts from the Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York.

Visitors are encouraged to bring canned goods which they can use as ballots to vote for the winner of the People's Choice Award. Donation receptacles will be at each structure and the structure with the most donations will win. Other awards include Largest Cash Donation and Best Signage.

At the end of the competition, all canned goods used and donated will go to the Food Pantries for the Capital District. This coalition consists of more than 70 food pantries in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady counties.
