A MOTORING expert has revealed the three best used cars that can be picked up for £10,000 or less – and they’re all set to rise in price.

The YouTube star known online as ‘Rusty Trusty’ gives out advice to his followers who are looking to bag a used car bargain and also warns about vehicle modifications that could actually damage your vehicle.

In a recent clip the social media influencer recommended three “enthusiast cars” that make for an interesting and affordable drive.

First on the list was the BMW 1 Series, although he advised getting the coupe version and not the hatchback as he thought the latter “just isn’t as good”.

The coupe though, he thought, had attractive styling as well as plenty of power.

Rusty said: “The BMW Series is a really good enthusiast’s car. I mean, it’s literally a two-door 3.0-litre six-cylinder, which is the perfect formula, and the coupe version is quite a nice looking car in my opinion.”

He added: “I also believe that these cars will inflate in price; they’re definitely going to be future classics.

“And I would say they’re probably sitting at the very bottom of their depreciation at the minute.”

BMW’s 1 Series coupe was built between 2007 and 2013, and Rusty thought it was more attractive than the hatchback version.

While the car was offered with a number of different engines, including a 1.8-litre diesel, the most powerful version could do 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds.

Anyone wanting to snap one up can expect to get a wide choice for less than £9,000 although ones with a higher mileage should be around the £5,000 mark.

The second car Rusty recommended was the Nissan Z Series, with both the 350Z and 370Z versions currently being the most affordable options.

Rusty said: “At the end of the day you’re buying a classic old school no-nonsense sports car.

“You’re buying a 3.5 or 3.6 V6 engine that drives the rear wheels. What more do you want?”

He thought the VQ engine was particularly good because it was “really reliable”.

Although he said the car was “definitely a good option” Rusty did warn they weren’t “the most practical”.

The YouTuber also recommended the Honda Civic Type R as it was a car that was both enjoyable to drive and practical.

He said: “[This car] is a little bit different to the other cars on this list and in my opinion it’s probably one of the best.

“You can’t really go wrong with a classic Honda Civic Type R to be honest.

“This car is probably one of the best enthusiast cars ever made, quite similar to the [Mazda] MX5 in that respect, but just a really solid option.

“There’s quite a lot to choose from too. It’s weird because each generation looks slightly different in each country, however I’m going to try and mainly focus on the EP3 generation [2001-05], but generally you can’t go wrong with a Civic.”

He added that while a lot of the cars mentioned weren’t that practical, he described the Civic as a “really good daily driver” and “really reliable”.

Towards the end of the footage he did also give brief mentions to the Toyota MR2 which he thought was one of the “most underrated car of all time”.

Another car briefly mentioned by Rusty was the Toyota Celica, which he said was also underrated, adding the seventh generation version was the one to go for.

If you can’t afford £10,000 then Wheeler Dealers’ Mike Brewer has revealed the four best used cars for under £5,000.

These though are the most desirable used cars in the UK.
