Sensory gym in Monroe designed for children with unique needs
MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) -- In March, a sensory gym opened that allows children to regulate their systems through play.
Bayou Land Sensory Gym is located on Finks Hideaway Road in Monroe and provides a safe area for children who have unique needs.
Owner Camille Cirilo says that the vision for this gym came to her around a year ago, but it was not installed until March of this year. Right now, the gym currently hosts birthday parties.
In northeast Louisiana, there is no other sensory gym. Cirilo says that, as an occupational therapist practitioner, she saw an increase in diagnoses for children with unique needs. She says this is something that our community is "hungry" for and is what our children need.
Eventually, the gym will offer open gym play, which will allow 10 children.
