Biden tops Trump by 4 points among likely voters in new survey

President Biden is leading former President Trump by four percentage points among likely voters, according to a new national poll from ABC News/Ipsos.

The poll found that 49 percent of likely voters would support Biden in a head-to-head matchup with Trump, who received 45 percent of support. However, Biden and Trump were nearly tied in a hypothetical matchup among all adults and among registered voters.

Trump narrowly led among all adults polled, 46 percent to 44 percent for Biden. The current president gained support when broken down by registered voters, with 46 percent of comapred to 45 percent for Trump.

Trump’s hush money case could pose some trouble for the former president among his own supporters, the poll found. While 80 percent of Trump’s supporters said they would still support him if convicted in the New York case, 16 percent said they would reconsider supporting him and 4 percent said they no longer would.

The poll also found that more Americans trust Trump to handle the economy and inflation than they do Biden.

Forty-six percent of those surveyed said they trust Trump on the economy, while 32 percent said the same of Biden. Forty-four percent of Americans also said they trusted Trump to handle inflation, compared to the 30 percent for Biden.

The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted online among 2,260 adults April 25-30 and has a margin of sampling error of 2 percentage points.

Other national polls also show a close race between the two frontrunners. The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s national polling average of a head-to-head matchup shows both Biden and Trump each receiving about 45 percent support.
