Over 23 million in Afghanistan require humanitarian aid

0

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) says that 23.7 million people urgently need humanitarian assistance in 2024.

The agency stated on Sunday, May 5th, that despite reduced violence, people in Afghanistan still require significant humanitarian aid.

According to the organization’s announcement, of the 23.7 million individuals in need of humanitarian assistance, 5.9 million are women, and 5.4 million are men.

Earlier, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies also stated that the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan is severely deteriorating.

Since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan, the humanitarian crisis has escalated in the country amid forced deportation and a shortage of funds by the international communities.

Returnees from neighboring countries to Afghanistan face numerous challenges, including food shortages, clean water, shelter, and employment opportunities.

Based on findings, the recent wave of expulsions of migrants from neighbouring countries, recent earthquakes, and natural disasters, especially floods, have increased the urgency for humanitarian assistance.
