Report: 24-goal man might be ‘too expensive’ for Tottenham this summer

0

The Sun’s Tom Barclay has reported that Tottenham Hotspur may not be able to afford a deal to sign Newcastle striker Alexander Isak this summer.

Isak has been one of the best strikers on show in England this season, having managed 24 goals across all competitions for the Magpies.

It was first reported by The Sun at the start of April that both Arsenal and Spurs were sniffing around the Sweden international ahead of the summer.

The report claimed that Newcastle might have to sacrifice the centre-forward this summer, given their FFP issues and suggested that they are bracing themselves for offers from both North London sides for their star man.

This information was also backed up a couple of weeks ago by Football Insider, who said that Isak was one of the strikers on Ange Postecoglou’s wishlist and that Tottenham have allocated a big portion of the summer budget to sign a top-class number nine.

However, while reporting on Spurs’ search for a number nine, Barclay has now said that the Newcastle star might simply be ‘too expensive’ for the Lilywhites.

The journalist added that it is unclear at the moment if Tottenham are going to push ahead with a move for Brentford star Ivan Toney this summer.

Newcastle are not going to let Isak go unless they receive a mammoth offer of around £100m. Tottenham do not tend to spend that kind of money on a single signing, with the club usually preferring to shop for players in the £30m-£60m range.
