Common causes include alopecia, pregnancy, nutritional deficiencies, pregnancy, severe stress, and underlying health conditions.
Frequently wearing tight hairstyles and using heat styling tools can also contribute to hair loss.
It’s normal to lose around 100 strands of hair daily, but it’s important to consult a doctor if you notice more shedding than usual.
A Reddit user took to the Beauty forum posting under the handle u/OHVAH_REES to reveal how they transformed their thinning tresses.
“When I was going to school full time and working nights full time, I was so stressed,” they said.
“At one point during my internship, I was so stressed I had patches of balding.
“I am blessed with super thick hair, so unless I flipped my hair back, you really couldn’t tell.
“The first thing is to try to reduce stress. Give yourself some self-care rituals each week.
“Go for a walk, take a relaxing soak, and work out.
“I also started eating pumpkin seeds, started doing rosemary oil treatments, and added a deep conditioning treatment to my routine.
“I also started taking prenatal, collagen, and hyaluronic acid supplements.
“My bald spots filled in, and my hair is the thickest, healthiest it’s ever been. It’s much longer, and it still looks full and good!”
They added that multivitamins are also beneficial for avoiding a deficiency that could cause hair loss.
The beauty enthusiast achieved new growth within six months of focusing on caring for their locks.
Tips for styling thinning hair
Rachael E. D Sey is a certified trichologist with almost 15,000 Instagram followers.
She revealed to The U.S. Sun how to protect hair from further loss.
Hairstyles
Sey recommended opting for a top knot or loosely braided ponytail over styles that tension strands.
She also advised to limit the use of heat tools such as a hair dryer or straightener.
Those who have afro hair, should avoid braids or consider larger braids.
DIY treatments
The trichologist said hair should be washed regularly and trimmed every six weeks.
She recommended using hair oils to help “improve scalp circulation and follicles.”
Many people up-voted the post and thanked them for sharing the tips.
A bag of organic pumpkin seeds is $12.16 and a rosemary oil scalp treatment costs $8.59 at Walmart.
One customer said the rosemary oil helped their hair to grow “faster than ever,” while another raved that they got impressive results when using it along with biotin pills and collagen powder.
A 2015 study published in the National Library of Medicine found that rosemary oil can be as effective as prescription drug minoxidil for protecting against hair loss.
Another study showed that rosemary leaf extract could stimulate hair growth, however, the research was performed on mice rather than human subjects.
