Man dies after car crashes into gates of the White House
A man has died after driving his car at a ‘high rate of speed’ into the gates of the White House.
The driver was found dead in his vehicle shortly before 10.30pm last night, according to the US Secret Service.
The Secret Service will continue to investigate the incident while the Washington Metropolitan Police Department investigates what led to the crash.
There was no threat to the White House, the Secret Service said.
In a statement, they added: ‘Limited traffic closures remain in effect as Secret Service teams, DC fire and EMS and the DC police investigate a fatal vehicle crash that occurred at an exterior perimeter gate by the White House.
‘There is no threat or public safety implications.’
Last year, a man who crashed into White House barriers apparently planned to deliver a coup speech announcing the end of American democracy.
Sai Varshith Kandula, 19, intended to overthrow US government and kill President Joe Biden if necessary in the May 22 crash, prosecutors said.
The resident of Chesterfield, Missouri, also praised Nazi leader Adolf Hitler as a ‘strong leader’, the memo states.
Though he was detained, Kandula declared his crash mission successful and told Secret Service agents that his writings would become widely known.
