Ohio governor vetoes medical free speech clause he says would gut state's regulatory power

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has vetoed part of a bill cast by state lawmakers as protecting the medical free speech of doctors and other health professionals. The Republican governor says it could have “devastating and deadly consequences for patient health.” The clause was added during a late-night lame duck session. It prohibited Ohio’s health department and pharmacy and medical boards from disciplining any licensed health care professional for “publicly or privately expressing a medical opinion that does not align” with regulatory standards.
