Updating the remembered position of targets following passive lateral translation

Plos.org

by John J. J. Kim, Laurence R. Harris

Spatial updating, the ability to track the egocentric position of surrounding objects during self-motion, is fundamental to navigating around the world. However, people make systematic errors when updating the position of objects after linear self-motion. To determine the source of these errors, we measured errors in remembered target position with or without passive lateral translations. Self-motion was presented both visually (simulated in virtual reality)... Читать дальше...

Exploring the patient’s recovery journey and information needs following a shoulder fracture: A qualitative interview study

Plos.org

by Pauline May, Firoza Davies, Gillian Yeowell, Chris Littlewood

Background

Shoulder fractures (proximal humerus fractures) are common, painful, debilitating injuries. Recovery is a long process often hindered by complications such as mal-union and frozen shoulder. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the experiences and information needs of people at different time points after a shoulder fracture and how views on recovery change over time.

Experimental study on the bearing capacity and effective anchorage lengths of inclined steel grouting pipes in loess embankment slope

Plos.org

by Jiawei Fan, Yufang Zhang, Kun Yuan, Wenjiao Zhou

Splitting grouting is widely used to reinforce unfavorable soil stratum. Inclined steel grouting pipe is a type of structure which can achieve splitting grouting in soil stratum. It has been successfully utilized in argillaceous sandstone stratum, but its application in loess stratum has rarely been studied directly. This research aims to compare and analyze the bearing capacity and effective anchorage lengths of inclined steel grouting pipes with anchorage lengths of 6 m... Читать дальше...

A multidimensional momentum chain model for tennis matches based on difference equations

by Jingya Wang, Sihang Guo, Yuanyun Zhou

In the process of pushing the limits of human performance, competitive sports are dedicated to the pursuit of excellence. In this context, the concept of "momentum" has gained significant attention, as it is widely acknowledged to influence the outcomes of competitions. The question of whether momentum affects sports psychology and the mechanisms underlying its generation and influence merits thorough investigation. In this paper, taking the 7,284... Revealing schoolchildren’s key situations in the use of digital media inside and outside school: A media diary study

Plos.org

by Jennifer Virginie Meier, Kai Kaspar

Introduction

Digital media have become integral to schoolchildren’s lives, both within educational and non-educational settings. Educators emphasize the importance of bridging the gap between school learning and children’s out-of-school activities. To identify potential variations and commonalities, we investigated key situations with digital media among lower secondary schoolchildren in Germany, aiming to determine which themes are especially relevant in different settings.
