WTO members review 30 years of trade development in least-developed countries

World Trade Organization 

To mark its 100th session, the Sub-Committee on Least-Developed Countries (LDCs) on 11 November looked at the progress made over the past 30 years in advancing LDCs’ integration into global trade. LDCs’ share in world exports of goods and commercial services has nearly doubled during this period, but it is still only around 1 per cent, speakers stressed. The meeting brought together ministers and senior representatives of WTO members to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing LDCs.

When I was a child we lived in Concordia, Kansas, and every November 11 the city would have a Veterans Day parade. In those days it was still called Armistice Day. This memory has always stuck with me for several reasons. There would be a football game that day which my father would take me to. Those were the first football games I ever attended and sparked my love for the sport.

Japan gives CHF 105,000 to help developing economies enhance trade know-how

Japan is contributing EUR 115,000 (about CHF 105,000) to the WTO’s Global Trust Fund to finance training programmes for government officials from developing and least developed country (LDC) members. The objective is to help these members broaden their expertise in WTO matters and deepen their skillset so that they may efficiently negotiate and implement trade rules. This is Japan’s second donation to this fund in 2024.
