The rise in asylum claims among international students has added to UVic’s financial struggles, as declining international enrollment has led to a $10 million shortfall in tuition revenue.

2 Pakistani police, 4 insurgents killed ahead of Asian security summit

PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Militants opened fire on a police vehicle and killed two officers on Thursday in restive northwest Pakistan before fleeing the scene, police said, a sign of increasing violence ahead of a summit of an Asian security grouping in the capital, Islamabad.  Hours later, the military said it killed four militants in North Waziristan, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan.
