The European Court of Justice has ruled in favour of Lassana Diarra against FIFA, ruling Fifa’s transfer rules go against European Union law.

And that reflects English common law; if it effectively turns into forced employment, then it’s invalid. Remedy would be damages.
If we had still been in the EU this would have effed the football creditor rule btw. Players would have to go bankrupt through not being able to afford damages. And then would be able to go elsewhere for nothing - and a club would be left with a damages claim it could not enforce.
