Codelco plans to inject almost $6bn into projects next year

Chile's Codelco is planning to invest nearly $6-billion next year in its pipeline of projects, about $1-billion more than the state-owned mining giant had previously estimated, its chairman Maximo Pacheco told Reuters on Monday. Codelco is planning to spend about $4.7-billion this year in projects to upgrade its mines which include Chuquicamata and El Teniente mine with the world's largest underground copper deposit.

Blyvoor gold mine on Johannesburg’s West Rand has sold 16% more gold to the end of August, Aurous Gold stated in a mid-year release on Monday. Gold production for the fiscal 2025 half-year to the end of August totalled 10 934 oz of gold on the back of record gold prices.

Hybrid solar PV, battery system to halve Penflex' reliance on grid power

South African stationery and plastic products manufacturer Penflex will install a hybrid solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS), which will halve its demand for electricity generated by State-owned Eskom and sustainably cut down on its biggest expense. The impact of the sustainable renewable-energy solution will help to secure the livelihoods of the families of its 300 employees and significantly reduce losses caused by wastage resulting from loadshedding, the company says.
