Bulls take a breather, financials drag Sensex 264 points lower, Nifty slips below 26,200

Sensex and Nifty ended their streak of record highs, closing in the red due to declines in heavyweight financial stocks. Sensex fell by 264 points to 85,571, while Nifty dropped 37 points to 26,178. Gains in IT and metal stocks partially offset the losses. Sequent Scientific surged over 14% after announcing a merger with Viyash Life Sciences. ​Despite the decline in blue-chip indices, the market capitalisation of all listed companies on the BSE surged by Rs 77,280 crore to Rs 477.92 lakh crore.

Provest Group goes solar for energy at its Steelpoort plant

South African mining, industrial and construction industries services provider Provest Group has successfully established a solar energy system at its Steelpoort plant, in Limpopo province. Provest, which has a particular focus on the platinum, chrome and manganese sectors, implemented the solar power project to both boost energy security at, and reduce the carbon emissions of, its Steelpoort facility. “Loadshedding pushed us to explore alternative energy solutions,” explained Provest Plant Manager Martin Kubyane. Chinese markets continue rally on strong fiscal stimulus

China's Shanghai Composite Index surged 2.8 percent to finish trading at 3,086.08. The day's trading ranged between 3,086.14 and 3,017.45. The highest level in four months also helped Shanghai Composite to post the best week since 2008. The Shenzhen Component Index jumped 6.7 percent to close at 9,514.86.
