WASHINGTON, D.C. - For the first time since early 2020, the Federal Reserve is cutting interest rates. The Feds have kept these rates at some of the highest points within the past 23-years to aggressively fight inflation. The Feds are reducing the high ra

(Photo credit: Abigail Dollins/Statesman Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images) Purdue and Oregon State will both try to bounce back from last weekend's lopsided home losses against in-state opponents when they meet Saturday in a nonconference clash in Corvallis, Ore. Phys.org

What's the best way to wake a giant after a long nap? "Very carefully, and with a lot of planning," said a grinning John Galambos. He was the project director for the Proton Power Upgrade project, or PPU, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory until his retirement in July after more than 40 years at the lab. "It was an A-team effort that will benefit science and technology development for decades to come."

Webb Telescope provides another look into galactic collisions

Phys.org

An interaction between an elliptical galaxy and a spiral galaxy, collectively known as Arp 107, seems to have given the spiral a happier outlook thanks to the two bright "eyes" and the wide semicircular "smile." The region has been observed before in infrared by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope in 2005. However, NASA's James Webb Space Telescope displays it at much higher resolution. This image is a composite, combining observations from Webb's MIRI (Mid-Infrared Instrument) and NIRCam (Near-Infrared Camera).

Nanoparticle technology shows promise for targeted diagnosis and treatment of atherosclerosis

Phys.org

Atherosclerosis is the build-up of plaque in the arteries which causes their narrowing. It is a primary cause of ischemic heart disease (IHD) and ischemic stroke (IS), both of which are major contributors to the 17.9 million deaths caused by cardiovascular diseases each year globally. The incidence of atherosclerosis-related conditions has been rising steadily over the past three decades, and particularly in younger populations. The increase is driven by lifestyle factors such as unhealthy diets... Читать дальше...
