Gazprom CEO Claims Oil Prices Will Soon Stabilize

Oilprice.com

Oil prices will soon stabilize, Gazprom Neft’s CEO Alexander Dyukov said on Thursday, despite current price woes that have cratered the price of Brent to below $74 per barrel. OPEC+ could also choose to make changes to the current production cut deal, which is set to begin the process of unwinding in October, Dyukov said but added that there was no need to rush to any decision. The current OPEC+ deal and the idea that the group could decide to add production back in as planned in October is precisely... Читать дальше...

Disease tolerance as immune defense strategy in bats: One size fits all?

Plos.org

by Gang Pei, Anne Balkema-Buschmann, Anca Dorhoi

Bats are natural reservoirs for zoonotic pathogens, yet the determinants of microbial persistence as well as the specific functionality of their immune system remain largely enigmatic. Their propensity to harbor viruses lethal to humans and/or livestock, mostly in absence of clinical disease, makes bats stand out among mammals. Defending against pathogens relies on avoidance, resistance, and/or tolerance strategies. In bats, disease tolerance... Читать дальше...

Unveiling the viroporin arsenal in plant viruses: Implications for the future

Plos.org

by Guanwei Wu, Jianping Chen, Aiming Wang, Fei Yan

Viroporins are small, hydrophobic viral proteins that modify cellular membranes to form tiny pores for influx of ions and small molecules. Previously, viroporins were identified exclusively in vertebrate viruses. Recent studies have shown that both plant-infecting positive-sense single-stranded (+ss) and negative-sense single-stranded (-ss) RNA viruses also encode functional viroporins. These seminal discoveries not only advance our understanding... Читать дальше...

ATRX restricts Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV) viral DNA replication through heterochromatinization and minimizes unpackaged viral genomes

Plos.org

by Ryan M. Walter, Kinjal Majumder, Robert F. Kalejta

ATRX limits the accumulation of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) Immediate Early (IE) proteins at the start of productive, lytic infections, and thus is a part of the cell-intrinsic defenses against infecting viruses. ATRX is a chromatin remodeler and a component of a histone chaperone complex. Therefore, we hypothesized ATRX would inhibit the transcription of HCMV IE genes by increasing viral genome heterochromatinization and decreasing its accessibility. Читать дальше...

Identifying crucial lncRNAs and mRNAs in hypoxia-induced A549 lung cancer cells and investigating their underlying mechanisms via high-throughput sequencing

Plos.org

by Lin Lin, Lili Deng, Yongxia Bao

Background

Rapid proliferation and outgrowth of tumor cells frequently result in localized hypoxia, which has been implicated in the progression of lung cancer. The present study aimed to identify key long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and messenger RNAs (mRNAs) involved in hypoxia-induced A549 lung cancer cells, and to investigate their potential underlying mechanisms of action.

Methods

High-throughput sequencing was utilized to obtain the expression... Читать дальше...

How does the supervision effect affect the firm’s performance in Taiwanese stock market?

Plos.org

by Tsung-Yu Hsieh, Tsai-Yin Lin, Fangjhy Li, Chih-Yun Tien

This paper explores the impact of the CEO’s supervisory role as an independent director on firm performance, utilizing measures such as Return on Equity (ROE) and Tobin’s Q. The supervisory effect is assessed through the remuneration of directors and supervisors. Empirical findings indicate a significant supervisory role when the CEO also serves as an independent director. Whether viewed from the perspective of shareholders’ equity or company growth...
