Rights group says 13 killed during protests over Nigeria's economic crisis. Hundreds arrested

A rights group says at least 13 protesters were killed during mass protests against Nigeria's economic crisis that turned violent in several states. Amnesty International's Nigeria office cited accounts from witnesses in its statement Friday. Authorities confirmed four protesters were killed by a bomb and hundreds were arrested in the protests that triggered curfews in several states.

Japan asks Denmark to extradite activist Paul Watson, accused of obstructing a whaling research ship

Japan has asked Denmark to extradite anti-whaling activist Paul Watson, who was arrested in Greenland last month. Japan’s coast guard sought his arrest over an encounter with a Japanese whaling research ship in 2010 when he was accused of ordering someone to throw explosives at the whaling ship. Environmental activists have criticized Japan’s practice of research whaling as a cover for commercial whale hunting. Turkey blocks access to Instagram, gives no reason

ANKARA, Turkey — Turkey's communications authority blocked access to the social media platform Instagram on Friday, the latest instance of a clampdown on websites in the country. The Information and Communication Technologies Authority, which regulates the internet, announced the block early Friday but did not provide a reason. Sabah newspaper, which is close to the government, said access was blocked in response to Instagram removing posts by Turkish users that expressed condolences over the killing of Hama political leader Ismail Haniyeh. Delhi Minister Atishi orders probe into Asha Kiran Shelter Home deaths

The Delhi government statement also noted that the 14 deaths that took place at the Asha Kiran Shelter Home, a government home for the mentally challenged, were caused by health issues and malnutrition as a result of the lack of requisite facilities to the inmates. "The ACS, Revenue is hereby directed to immediately initiate a magisterial inquiry into the whole matter...and submit a report on the same within 48 hours, " said the official notification.
