Katie Ledecky wins gold in 1,500 freestyle, 8th Olympic gold of her career

American swimmer Katie Ledecky won her eighth career Olympic gold medal and 12th medal overall Wednesday when she dominated the 1,500-meter freestyle with a record-breaking performance. Matthew Futterman, a reporter for the Athletic who's in Paris covering the games, joined CBS News to talk about Ledecky and some of the other Olympic highlights from Wednesday.

The Czech central bank cuts its key interest rate as inflation falls and the economy slowly recovers

The Czech Republic’s central bank has cut its key interest rate for the sixth time in a row as inflation falls and the economy recovers more slowly than expected. The cut, which had been predicted by analysts, brought the interest rate down by a quarter of a percentage point, to 4.50%. The bank started to trim borrowing costs by a quarter-point on Dec. 21. The Czech economy was up by 0.4% up year-on-year in the second quarter of 2024, and increased by 0.3% compared with the previous three months. Читать дальше...

Court denies anticipatory bail to former IAS probationer Puja Khedkar

A Delhi court on Thursday denied anticipatory bail to former IAS probationer Puja Khedkar who has been accused of cheating and wrongly availing of OBC and PwD (person with disabilities) quota benefits. Additional Sessions Judge Devender Kumar Jangala said Delhi Police "must also investigate if anyone from inside the UPSC helped Khedkar". The judge also widened the probe in the case and directed Delhi Police to investigate if other persons have availed of benefits under OBC and PwD quotas without entitlement. Читать дальше...
