The role of organisational- and country-level factors in the volume and public visibility of business and management research

Plos.org

by Kevin Credit, Olga Ryazanova, Peter McNamara

Using a multilevel modelling approach to analyse a novel dataset of academic publications at all business schools in 11 European countries, this paper finds that the influence of organisational- and country-level contextual factors on researchers varies considerably based on the type of institution and the development level of the country they are located in. At the organisational-level, we find that greater spatial connectivity–operationalised through proximity to nearby business schools... Читать дальше...

Epilepsy detection based on multi-head self-attention mechanism

Plos.org

by Yandong Ru, Gaoyang An, Zheng Wei, Hongming Chen

CNN has demonstrated remarkable performance in EEG signal detection, yet it still faces limitations in terms of global perception. Additionally, due to individual differences in EEG signals, the generalization ability of epilepsy detection models is week. To address this issue, this paper presents a cross-patient epilepsy detection method utilizing a multi-head self-attention mechanism. This method first utilizes Short-Time Fourier Transform... A needs analysis of ESP courses in colleges of art and design: Consensus and divergence

Plos.org

by Fengfan Mao, Jiefeng Zhou

This study presents a comprehensive needs analysis of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses in colleges of art and design in China. By examining the perspectives of undergraduate students, graduate students, art teachers, and English teachers, the research identifies consensus and divergence in ESP needs and implementation challenges. The analysis reveals a strong demand among students for specialized English learning, with a particular emphasis on receptive and interactive skills. Читать дальше...

The impact of China’s value-added tax credit refunds on enterprise labor demand: Ex-ante analysis and ex-post test

Plos.org

by Yang Yang, Xin Yu, Jian Du

This paper aims to explore the impact of China’s value-added tax (VAT) credit refunds policy on the enterprises’ labor demand through a paradigm combining ex-ante analysis and ex-post test. By introducing the VAT credit refunds into the production-decision model of the enterprise, calibrating the parameters and conducting the dynamic effects tests using the data of Chinese A-share listed enterprises, this paper finds that the labor employment of the pilot enterprises exhibits a V-shaped fluctuation trend. Investigating possibilities for surveillance of long term chlamydia complications in the Netherlands: A qualitative study

Plos.org

by Elisabeth Maria den Boogert, Fleur van Aar, Janneke C. M. Heijne

Objectives

Chlamydia trachomatis (chlamydia) is one of the most reported bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STI) worldwide. Chlamydia can cause long term complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), ectopic pregnancy (EP) and tubal factor infertility (TFI). Changing testing strategies, for example reduced asymptomatic testing, influence chlamydia surveillance, highlighting the need for exploring alternative ways of monitoring chlamydia. Semantic aware-based instruction embedding for binary code similarity detection

Plos.org

by Yuhao Jia, Zhicheng Yu, Zhen Hong

Binary code similarity detection plays a crucial role in various applications within binary security, including vulnerability detection, malicious software analysis, etc. However, existing methods suffer from limited differentiation in binary embedding representations across different compilation environments, lacking dynamic high-level semantics. Moreover, current approaches often neglect multi-level semantic feature extraction, thereby failing to acquire... Читать дальше...

All-trans retinoic acid downregulates HBx levels via E6-associated protein-mediated proteasomal degradation to suppress hepatitis B virus replication

Plos.org

by Jiwoo Han, Kyung Lib Jang

All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA), recognized as the principal and most biologically potent metabolite of vitamin A, has been identified for its inhibitory effects on hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication. Nevertheless, the underlying mechanism remains elusive. The present study reveals that ATRA induces E6-associated protein (E6AP)-mediated proteasomal degradation of HBx to suppress HBV replication in human hepatoma cells in a p53-dependent pathway. For this effect... Читать дальше...

Evaluation of cytokine expressions in patients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Plos.org

by Fangjun Teng, Qiuchen Jin

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the expression levels of various T helper (Th) cell-secreted cytokines in recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). Case-control studies comparing the serum or salivary levels of cytokines between RAS patients and healthy controls were searched in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Google Scholar prior to September 30, 2023. Cytokines produced by Th1 (interleukin [IL]-1, IL-2, IL-8, IL-12, tumor necrosis factor alpha [TNF-α]... Читать дальше...

What DART has taught us so far

The Planetary Society

NASA's DART mission showed that if we detect a dangerous asteroid headed toward Earth, knocking it off course with a spacecraft is a potential option.
