In a sophisticated scam that played out over WhatsApp, a businessman from Thane, Maharashtra, found himself defrauded of an astonishing Rs 1.88 crore. Operating a coaching class, the victim was ensnared into the fraudulent scheme after being added to a WhatsApp group named 'STOCK Vanguard (F)'. This group, comprising approximately 170 members, regularly disseminated stock tips and trading advice, initially convincing the businessman of its credibility.
