West Ham set to sign Tottenham academy graduate after Mohammed Kudus controversy

0

A defender, who has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur all summer, is set to join their London rivals, West Ham United, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Tottenham have already done some smart business so far this summer, and Spurs soon also hope to get Morgan Gibbs-White through the door.

However, there are still a couple of gaping holes to fill in the squad, with one of them being at left-back, as Destiny Udogie is the only recognised left-back in the Tottenham squad.

That was perhaps why Tottenham were considering re-signing Kyle Walker-Peters, who was available as a free agent after his contract with Southampton ran out.

The 28-year-old’s arrival would have also helped ease Tottenham’s shortage of homegrown and club-trained players, and it was reported that Walker-Peters was open to a return to N17.

Kyle Walker-Peters chooses West Ham United after Tottenham call off pursuit

However, it was revealed by The Telegraph two weeks ago that Tottenham had called off their pursuit of Walker-Peters, despite holding discussions about the full-back internally.

Fabrizio Romano has now taken to social media to confirm that the England international is on his way to the London Stadium.

The journalist gave his ‘here we go’ seal of approval to the transfer, revealing that Kyle Walker-Peters will sign a contract until 2028 with West Ham, with only formalities now set to be completed.

This comes after Tottenham not only poached one of West Ham’s best players, Mohammed Kudus, this summer, but the former Hammers star also made a ‘disrespectful comment’ after arriving in N17.

Have Tottenham boxed themselves into a corner?

While Spurs have done some good business so far, they have failed to address their lack of homegrown numbers.

While Gibbs-White’s expected arrival may help ease their concerns a bit, the Lilywhites may have to target English players for the number six and left-back roles.

Tottenham have been credited with an interest in signing Fulham’s Antonee Robinson, who counts as homegrown despite being a USA international, as he spent his formative years in the Everton academy.
