Yeah, that's me basically. Played footie until my 50s then had to stop - my particular flavour is mountain biking though, wouldn't be a roadie at any cost - 5k on a top end full suss mtb is regular, thought I never spent that much. Been everywhere doing it, carried the bike to the top of Mt Snowdon then rode down the other side at 55. Still ride regularly now, but just over the Chase - my proper mountain days are over. Great way to keep the joints moving, though with my version, much more chance of injury due to the nature of it (going silly fast down hills with wet tree roots and rocks, doing daft jumps over stuff). At least a tree or a rock won't try and run me off the trail though.
