Durban – A man was killed and 17 people were injured when a taxi rolled on the N2 highway in Durban.

Kyle van Reenen, spokesman for Crisis Medical paramedics, said that the accident happened on the south bound lanes of the N2 near Sunningdale.

The man, who died, had been ejected from the minibus at the time of the accident. He was declared dead at the scene.

“Seventeen others were treated and stabilized on scene before being taken through to various hospitals for treatment of injuries ranging from minor to moderate in severity,” said Van Reenen.

Two lanes of three highways were closed while paramedics attended to the injured and debris was cleared from the highway.

“It is unclear what caused the collision but bystanders allege a tyre blow out may have lead to the driver losing control and the vehicle overturning,” said Van Reenen.
