WhatsApp introduces new group calling features
Tengrinews.kz - WhatsApp has announced new features for video calls, enhancing the user experience just in time for the holiday season. Users can now select participants for group video calls, enjoy improved video quality, and access an updated calls tab on desktop, according to TechCrunch.
New option for group calls
The platform now allows users to choose specific participants for group calls. Previously, initiating a group call would alert all members of the chat. With this update, users can select who to include, avoiding unnecessary disruptions. This feature is especially useful for reaching only available members or planning surprises within groups.
The update reflects Meta’s efforts to position WhatsApp as a versatile tool for both personal and professional communication, competing with services like Google Meet and Zoom.
New video call effects
WhatsApp has added fun effects to video calls, including puppy ears, underwater themes, and a karaoke microphone.
Desktop improvements
The desktop app has received an upgraded calls tab, making features like starting calls, creating call links, and dialing numbers more accessible. The video quality has also been enhanced for both mobile and desktop calls.
These updates build on last year’s improvements, such as support for up to 32 participants, speaker highlights for easier identification, and screen sharing with audio. These features have made WhatsApp a practical tool for workplace communication.
Previously, WhatsApp introduced a free feature for transcribing voice messages.
