I found Carrie Bradshaw’s Vera Wang wedding dress from the Sex & the City movie in a charity shop for £15 & saved £5.5k
WE all love a bargain, especially when it means saving thousands on designer goods.
One of the best places to uncover hidden gems is charity shops, where people donate their old items.
One fashion fan was left stunned after stumbling upon a Hollywood-worthy find.
Ashley Cano, who goes by the name ‘aileenscloset90’ on TikTok, discovered what appears to be Carrie Bradshaw’s Vera Wang wedding dress from the Sex and the City movie.
The dress, which is the Eleanor bridal gown by Vera Wang, was worn by Sarah Jessica Parker’s character Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City during a bridal photoshoot for Vogue.
According to resale bridal sites, the gown typically retails for around $7,000 – approximately £5,562.
However, Ashley, who frequently thrifts and sells pieces on Poshmark, managed to snap it up for just £15.
She shared a video on TikTok, captioning it: “I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this dress.
“But I fear I may have bitten off more than I can chew. It’s so big, so heavy. And I have no clue how to best sell it.”
The all-white, strapless gown features an A-line full skirt adorned with feathered flower embroidery.
In the video, which zooms in on the dress and its label, Ashley can be heard saying: “Vera freaking Wang.
“I cannot believe that I found this dress at Goodwill for $18.99. It is Vera Wang.
“It is the Carrie Bradshaw dress.
“I’m shook. I have never sold a wedding dress, so if anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate them in the comments.”
Ashley’s video has already gained over 198 comments as many rush to share their thoughts.
One asked: “How much are you selling it for? I might be interested profoundly single but I am deeply engaged to serving.”
To which Ashley replied: “Haha I love your vibe. I’m not trying to make a crazy amount from it.
“Definitely want to spread the love and bless a bride. I’d say somewhere between 15-20% of retail.”
A second added: “The way this is my size and I am getting married in two months and this is my dream dress.”
A third said: “Omg you hit the jackpot!”
Whilst another wrote: “I immediately thought of Carrie Bradshaw before you said a word. Amazing score!”
Dos and don’ts of wedding dress codes
By Josie Griffiths, Fabulous deputy editor and bride-to-be.
Josie Griffiths said: I’ll never forget the wedding I went to in October 2022 where a guest wore a white dress.
It was ill-fitting, knee length and looked nothing like an actual wedding dress, but that didn’t stop everyone judging her.
The rules on wedding guest outfits – which are annoyingly loads stricter for women than they are for men – are meant to be about “not upstaging the bride”, which in reality is quite hard to do on someone else’s wedding day.
But if you get it wrong as a guest, you do end up looking a bit silly, and in front of loads of people who don’t know you personally.
It’s just not the occasion for your new white dress, as much as online stores love dumping them in the ‘wedding guest’ section.
I’d avoid anything too tight/short, and ditch super formal gowns unless the dress code calls for them – you don’t want to be in a full length sequin gown at a smart casual event.
Personally I don’t like black dresses either, it isn’t a funeral.
Otherwise you should be pretty safe. Technically wearing red means you’re in love with the groom, but that’s the kind of rule most people would scoff at nowadays.
I do always check what colour the bridesmaids are in, just to be safe, after the Spanish wedding where I watched them walk down the aisle in the exact same dress I’d had in my Asos shopping basket just weeks earlier.
If in doubt, safest to just double check with the bride… but if you’re already doubting your dress that might be all the answer you need.
