The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 24th September) 49ers open talks with James over new terms
Good Morning. It's Tuesday 24th September and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
49ers open talks with James over new terms
Leeds are gearing up to offer Dan James a new deal, highlighting his pivotal role as one of the key attacking players at the club. The 49ers group are keen on securing his long term future at Elland Road and are initiating talks to extend his stay, ensuring there are no uncertainties as his current contract reaches its final 18 months.
For the 49ers, providing the Welsh International with an upgraded contract is a strategic move, given his significant impact last season. His 13 goals and 8 assists over just 2500 minutes of game time (nearly half what some players managed) had a significant impact on last seasons standings. If James can stay fit this time around, there is no reason why he can't exceed these figures.
Has Piroe earnt a recall?
With 2 goals and an assist in just 132 minutes of game time this season, Leeds front man Joel Piroe could be due a start at home against Coventry City at the weekend.
His clinical finish at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday will no doubt give Daniel Farke food for thought about how best to turn dominance into goals. Even the travelling contingent were getting fed up with their latest lacklustre performance, booing Gruev when passing backwards, and continual chants of attack, attack, attack.
We've already played the bottom three, who between them, have already shipped 38 goals, yet Leeds have only managed to find the back of the net nine times this season, the same amount as Millwall - even Oxford Utd (10) have scored more.
Like it or not but Daniel Farke is now under pressure. His failure to revert from his traditional 4/2/3/1 when the Bluebirds went down to ten men has come under criticism, as has his use of substitutes, which once again were not introduced until the 84th minute. Is Piroe the answer?
