Salem man, 75, dies in hospital after hit-run

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A 75-year-old man who was injured in a hit-and-run crash in early May has died, Salem police announced Monday.

Randall Dale Wilson had been crossing the street near 4100 Rickey Street SE when a car hit him and fled the scene. Officers arrived at the scene around 11:40 a.m.

“The crash investigation determined the pedestrian was attempting to cross Rickey Street approximately one block east of Lancaster Drive when they were struck by a pick-up traveling westbound on the same street,” police said.

Wilson was taken to Salem Health and was later transferred to a Portland-area hospital. He died of his injuries on May 8.

Investigators tracked down Ramiro Gabriel Herrera, 63, and arrested him as the suspected pick-up driver on Sunday afternoon.

Herrera is accused of failing to perform the duties of a driver, according to police.
